Historical Socastee, SC

If you are in the area of Socastee make sure you check out the many historical houses in the area. The oldest location is the house of Samuel Sarvis, built in 1881. The Sarvis House was occupied from 1881 – 2010. It was sold to the Socastee Heritage Foundation in 2013.

Another home that is over 100 years old is The Thomas B. Cooper house that was built for Mr. Cooper by Robert M. Prince, Jr. in 1908. Though the exterior has recently been renovated, the house has some of its original charm and is worth passing by. It is located on Dick Pond Road. The house is currently used to host events, weddings and theatre performances. On the same property you will also find the Cooper General Store and a grove of pecan trees.

The Socastee Swing Bridge

This bridge opened in 1936 and was vital in developing Myrtle Beach as a resort area.
